Let's reduce food waste

Food waste that goes to landfill is really, really bad for the planet, far more potent than CO2.

 

Reducing food waste is something we can all do to reduce our emissions in a very real way. Part of our campaign is to see how we can reduce food waste in our hospitality sector, starting with plate leftovers.

Let's end the era of plastic

Plastic is everywhere. It's in the oceans, the air and it's even in us. 

We would love to hear from any hospitality venues in Northern Tasmania (and anywhere else in the State) who would like to say goodbye to plastic and alfoil take-away containers.

Let's collaborate

PHASE 1:  We are looking to get feedback from our all our participants to look at how together we can implement some long term solutions.

PHASE 2: Using what we learn from Phase 1, we will work with all our participants to implement longer term solutions.

Our ‘Great2Go’ kit will provide you with everything you need: clear instructions for your diners on how keep their leftovers safe for consumption at home (after all, once it leaves your premises it is their responsibility) and enough branded bags and biodegradable containers for 6-8 weeks.

We'll also give you a window sticker and posters so you customers will know you care about food waste - and we will be promoting all our participating eating houses in our socials - so you'll be getting some FREE PUBLICITY.

At the end of the pilot we'll ask you for some feedback.

We know that many restaurants work to reduce their food waste, but we also know that around 25% of food that Australian restaurants purchase goes to landfill. A significant amount of that waste comes from plate leftovers. 

We also know many restaurants use plastic or alfoil take-away conatinaers because they have not been able to source cost effective alternatives.
